Character Development Workshop

A character development workshop is designed to help participants create deep, believable, and compelling characters for various purposes, whether it's for creative writing (novels, screenplays, plays), role-playing games (like Dungeons & Dragons), or even for personal growth and understanding of human behavior.

Here's an overview of what we will be covering:

I. Core Concepts of Character:

  • What makes a good character? Moving beyond stereotypes to create unique individuals.

  • Internal vs. External Character: Understanding a character's inner world (thoughts, emotions, motivations, values, beliefs, flaws) and their outward presentation (appearance, mannerisms, habits, actions, dialogue).

  • Character Arc: How characters change and grow throughout a story or over time. This includes understanding their starting point, the challenges they face, and their ultimate transformation.

  • Motivation and Goals: What drives a character? What do they want, and why?

  • Conflict (Internal and External): The struggles a character faces within themselves and with external forces.

  • Strengths and Weaknesses: Identifying both the admirable and flawed aspects of a character.

II. Techniques and Tools for Character Creation:

  • Brainstorming and Ideation (Mind Map):

    • "What If" Scenarios: Exploring different possibilities for a character's background and future.

    • Archetypes and Tropes: Understanding common character types and how to subvert or utilize them effectively.

    • Inspiration from Real Life: Drawing from personal experiences, observations, and people.

  • Character Questionnaires/Checklists: Using structured questions to delve into various aspects of a character's life, such as:

    • Basic demographics (age, gender, appearance)

    • Backstory (childhood, significant life events, relationships)

    • Personality traits (introvert/extrovert, optimistic/pessimistic)

    • Habits and quirks

    • Likes and dislikes

    • Skills and weaknesses

    • Fears and desires

    • Moral compass and worldview

  • Sensory Details: How a character experiences the world through their five senses, and how this impacts their actions and reactions.

  • Relationships: Exploring how a character interacts with others and how these relationships shape them.

The Workshop Benefits:

  • Enhancing Creativity which provides structured methods for developing original and engaging characters.

  • Improving Storytelling with stronger character foundation and narratives.

  • Deeper level of empathy with diverse perspectives and motivations.

  • Problem-solving since you know how your characters think and who they are before you write.

  • Using Practical Skills with tangible tools and techniques.

Launch Party - The World of Perspective Vol. 1

Do you all remember those magazines that had great interviews, ask columns, great advice, art, graphics, photography, and just great quality entertainment? Whether your answer was yes or no, what we plan to do is create just that and more!

Written Articles on Camera™ started as an interview series in late 2020/early 2021; now it is so much more. We wanted to create a space for all creatives and individuals to have community and an initial start to figure out where they might be going, need to go, or just might need that push in the right direction. In 2024, we have transitioned into not just a visual aspect but an online platform to help engage and inspire our community to publish and showcase their work (essentially, we are creating a new publishing outlet).

Our audience doesn't stop with the digital. What about those who actually want to see what they've created in the palms of their hands? That is where we welcome you to the print version of our online platform "Welcome to the World of Perspective".

We don't want to limit you to creativity alone. We are also bringing advice, resources, and knowledge right to your fingertips. Our mission is to produce and publish exactly what you need and give it to you. Community is about obtaining the right support, and that is what we need, too!

On this night we plan to help showcase wonderful talent while also having a great time and networking!
